Exploring Identity Through Our Culture, Language And History

Cultural identity and having a sense of self is an important part of a child’s overall development, specifically their social, emotional, and cognitive growth.  We know that when caregivers are involved in the child’s learning and development, the child feels increased motivation and encouragement for success. Hmong Early Childhood Coalition is excited to offer culturally appropriate educational programs related to identity and the Hmong culture, language, and history.

iStrive All About Me Pre-K Camp

iStrive Pre-K Camp is a two week program for 4-5 year old children entering Kindergarten.  Children will explore their identity through songs, reading books, and exploring through play. Daily activities will also support children’s social emotional learning related to themselves, their family, community, and the Hmong language and culture.  By the end of the program, children  will feel more comfortable about who they are, identify some feelings, and build community with one another.

All About Me for 3- 5 Year Olds & Their Family

The All About Me program is an 8 weeks session for children 3-5 years old and their caregivers.  Similar to the iStrive program, children will explore their identity through daily activities related to themselves, their family, community, and the Hmong language and culture. Both caregivers and children will get together to experience and practice the skills they learned during each session. Then there will be a separation time allotted for caregivers as needed to have deeper conversations with the content facilitators and debrief with one another to discuss ideas and ways to support in building their child’s confidence and identity.
