Pediatric CPR/AED & First-Aid

The American Heart Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED course is geared towards anyone involved in childcare who have a duty to respond to illnesses and injuries in a child or infants. Participants will learn to provide care to; injury, environmental and medical emergencies, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner and how to prevent illness and injury. This course has been updated to reflect new science and education in the 2020 Guidelines for CPR & ECC and will replace the previous version.

Authentic Observation

In this interactive session participants will be introduced to child observation and the tools of objective observation. Participants will discuss the rationale for child observation, will practice observation techniques and will discuss ways in which to use observation information to individualize care and learning environments.

(SUID/AHT) Sudden Unexpected Infant Death/Reducing the Risk of Abusive Head Trauma

This class meets DHS Licensing training requirements for both Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) and Abusive Head Trauma (AHT). Content includes recommendations to reduce SUID including SIDS, suffocation, and other sleep related infant deaths; safe sleep environments; MN Child Care regulations related to safe sleep; as well as symptoms and consequences of abusive head trauma, risk factors for abusive head trauma; strategies to use when stressed, angry or frustrated.

Learn strategies to encourage physical activity in ways that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and inclusive of all children. Developmentally Appropriate Behavior

Meets the 4 hour preservice Child Development/Behavior Guidance training requirement for Family Child Care Providers. This training curriculum will address key facts about early brain development; define social emotional development and describe how it unfolds in the context of relationships; examine how environments affect children’s behaviors; and identify some concrete strategies for preventing behavioral challenges.

Discover how to promote healthy eating habits by exploring culturally and developmentally appropriate nutrition practices for children. Learn to identify common feeding trends in Hmong families and recognize their impact on child health. Engage in hands-on activities to create balanced MyPlates that reflect children’s cultural backgrounds. Discuss real-life strategies to support neurodiverse children and work in partnership with families.

Understand best practices and frameworks for adults, caregivers and early childhood educators, to model and maintain strong, positive screen time for themselves and the children in their care. Engage in lesson planning to detail how often you include physical activity and screen time in a child’s day and how we can ensure the time allocation adheres to best practices. Consider ways in which adults can identify and assess high quality digital content and model healthy boundaries with technology.
